West Ottawa’s First Francophone EarlyON Centre Launches Programs

June 12, OTTAWA –  École élémentaire catholique Jean-Robert-Gauthier has launched programs at its francophone EarlyON child and family centre, the first west Ottawa location to offer these services in French. In partnership with Grandir Ensemble, a local children’s services organization, the centre offers free programming to the community, including French-language playgroups for children from birth to six years old and a parent or caregiver.

“Once again, the Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est (CECCE) is demonstrating its commitment to meeting the school community’s needs. In this case, the CECCE has listened to the community and families in west Ottawa who want access to a broader range of French-language services,” said CECCE Chair Johanne Lacombe.

“This grand opening is an expression of the CECCE’s desire to open its schools to the preschool community, whose members may have a hard time accessing services in French. Inspired by its mission to engage all students in learning, pursuing their dreams, and building a better world, the Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est is making a caring and safe francophone environment available to very young children and their families. This EarlyON centre is steeped in Christian values and a powerful vision for transforming the 21st-century learning experience,” said Director of Education Réjean Sirois.

At the centre, children will enjoy games, books, songs, and nursery rhymes. The stimulating environment will encourage them to explore their creativity through art, music, and dance. This francophone EarlyON centre will also give parents opportunities to connect, get advice, participate in workshops, and learn about community resources available to them. In addition to all of these services, the centre will offer prenatal and postnatal programs to enhance parent wellness and strengthen parenting skills. As a welcoming and inclusive space for families that are new to Canada and francophile parents from bilingual families, the EarlyON centre will provide them with the tools they need to better support their children in French-language school.
