Start of Reconstruction of École élémentaire catholique Sainte-Geneviève

OTTAWA, Thursday, June 4, 2015 - This afternoon, the Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est (CECCE) held a groundbreaking ceremony marking the start of the reconstruction of École élémentaire catholique Sainte-Geneviève located at 2198 Arch Street, Ottawa.

The project, valued at 6.6 million $, will allow the renovation of the school, which will be able to accommodate 714 students, compared to the 598 existing places. Set to begin in July 2015, the reconstruction and renovations will be complete for the start of the 2016 school year.

The renovated facilities will include:

-          10 new classrooms,
-          4 additional preschool and kindergarten classrooms,
-          the relocation of the library,
-          the renovation of the gymnasium.

According to Denis Poirier, CECCE Chair, “A groundbreaking ceremony is a gesture of hope representing the Board's commitment to consistently wanting to provide the best facilities for the development and well-being of the girls and boys attending our schools. Today's event takes us a step closer towards a better future for our students.”

“Not only will École élémentaire catholique Sainte-Geneviève have new classrooms, but everything will be arranged so as to foster learning in the digital age,” explains Bernard Roy, CECCE Director of Education. “To promote cooperation and teamwork, we plan to implement reconfigurable classrooms: open and well-organized spaces that will spark students' creativity. We will spare no expense to support the success and well-being of each and every student.”
