New CECCE School for Ottawa’s Riverside South

February 1, 2018, OTTAWA - The Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est (CECCE) is pleased to announce that the Ministry of Education has granted funding for a new school in Ottawa’s Riverside South.

“A new Catholic JK–6 school is great news for the growing number of francophone families in Riverside South, Leitrim, Greely, Metcalfe and Blossom Park,” said Johanne Lacombe, CECCE Chair. “The school community has been very active in lobbying for a new school to serve more francophone rights holders and take some pressure off École élémentaire catholique Bernard-Grandmaître, which is currently operating at capacity,” added Chad Mariage, CECCE Vice-Chair and trustee for Barrhaven, Knoxdale-Merivale, Rideau-Goulbourn and Gloucester-South Nepean.

The school, located in southwest Ottawa at the intersection of Ralph Hennessy Avenue and Mount Nebo, will open its doors for the 2019–20 school year. The new building will accommodate 412 students and include three child care rooms.

Director of Education Réjean Sirois is very pleased with the investments announced by the Ministry of Education. “Several of the CECCE’s priority projects were approved and funded by the ministry, and I am delighted that the hard work and dedication of our board members and executives will make it possible for more francophone students and children to grow, develop, and achieve their full potential in cutting-edge Catholic schools,” he said.

School-community hub in Kingston: On January 23, the Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est (CECCE) and the Conseil des écoles publiques de l’Est de l’Ontario (CEPEO) jointly announced Ministry of Education funding for a school-community hub in Kingston. The new high school, which will be attached to the Centre culturel Frontenac, will accommodate 300 students from each board and 49 CECCE child care spaces.

New daycare in Kemptville: On January 30, the CECCE held the grand opening of a new daycare at the Kemptville Pavilion of École élémentaire catholique Sainte-Marguerite-Bourgeoys. The CECCE’s $215,000 investment, together with a $109,000 contribution from the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville, will create eight spaces for preschool-aged children. The Ministry of Education license authorizes the Kemptville Pavilion to add 10 new toddler spaces and 16 preschool spaces for a total of up to 26 spaces.

New child care spaces: The CECCE is pleased that it will be able to accommodate more families and expand its early childhood offerings thanks to Ministry of Education approval for new child care spaces.
