Launch of the 2016 United Way Campaign

OTTAWA, September 29, 2016 — The Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est (CECCE) is proud to join in the launch of United Way Ottawa’s 2016 campaign, in order to help give each and every family the tools they need to support the success of their children.

At the CECCE’s Head Office, and across all of its schools, activities will be held in October and November to raise funds for United Way. Parents and the community will also be asked for donations in order to help the organization reach its goals and carry out its mission of making measurable, lasting change in our community.

“As members of a publicly funded French Catholic education system, the CECCE has a responsibility to see to the well-being of children in need, and to ensure they are included and able to thrive,” said CECCE Chair Johanne Lacombe. “All children should have the chance to flourish under the best circumstances possible. That’s why the CECCE established the Fondation des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est (FECCE).That way, we can help United Way reach its goals while also directing our donation to the FECCE.”

“The United Way fundraising campaign is very important for the FECCE, since it is one of the foundation’s main sources of revenue,” said Réjean Sirois, Director of Education of the CECCE. “The funds raised through the FECCE are systematically redistributed to CECCE students from low-income families in order to alleviate the effects of poverty by providing for essential needs, such as food and clothing. The amounts raised also help cover the costs of specialized health care for underprivileged children, and encourage them to participate in educational, extracurricular, athletic, recreational and cultural activities by providing school supplies and paying for their enrolment and equipment costs.”

The Superintendent of Education of the CECCE and Executive Director of the FECCE, Jean-François Bard, was pleased to announce that, “Since its launch in 2011, the Foundation has contributed more than $120,000 to combatting the effects of poverty on students in the CECCE’s French-language Catholic schools, to help them overcome the difficulties they face on a daily basis.”
