July 3rd, 2018, OTTAWA - More than ever, the Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est (CECCE) is delivering on its commitment to protecting the environment. Nine new CECCE schools achieved EcoSchools certification this year, bringing the total to 41 of the board’s 55 schools. With 75% of its elementary and secondary schools now certified EcoSchools, the CECCE is one of the top-performing school boards in the province.

“The CECCE is extremely proud to be part of this growing network and to encourage and mobilize its school communities to do their part to protect the environment,” said CECCE Chair Johanne Lacombe. “From building flower and vegetable gardens to contributing to climate change research, our school teams are showing that they care about protecting the environment. Their initiatives inspire so much hope for the future,” she added.

“All of our EcoSchools can count on the support of teachers and broader communities that care about the environment, encourage eco-friendly practices, and work together to help our students become engaged, ethical, environmentally responsible citizens,” said Réjean Sirois, CECCE Director of Education. “I am very proud of our schools’ progress this year, and I find it reassuring to know that CECCE-educated citizens will understand how their actions affect the environment and how important sustainable development is to building a healthy future,” he added.
