Collège catholique Franco-Ouest to Add Programs and Enhance Facilities

March 1, 2017, OTTAWA - For the 2017 school year, students at Collège catholique Franco-Ouest will have the option of enrolling in either of two new specialized programs, and renovations this year will enhance their school environment.

New Specialized Programs Added

For 2017-18, students can enroll in the Communications and Media preconcentration or concentration in connection with the Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) in Information and Communications Technology and Focus programs in graphic design, photography and television production already available at Franco-Ouest. “In the digital age, communication is an essential skill for academic, social and professional success. Thanks to an innovative pedagogical approach, students will engage in an in-depth learning experience through challenging and stimulating projects that involve the use of cutting-edge technology and media,” said Johanne Lacombe, Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est (CECCE) Chair.

For 2018-19, Franco-Ouest’s International Baccalaureate (IB) program, which is currently offered to students in grades 7 and 8, will be expanded to grade 9 and 10 students, enabling all students to access the Middle Years Programme so they can benefit from pedagogical practices unique to IB. “Making the International Baccalaureate program available to all grade 7 to 10 students in 2018 is a perfect fit with the CECCE’s student profile upon exiting school because it fosters critical and creative thinking, analysis and problem-solving, and conversations around beliefs and personal values. It encourages students to reflect and get involved in their community,” said Réjean Sirois, CECCE Director of Education.

The Collège catholique Franco-Ouest is introducing these enhancements to specialized programs following consultations with students, school staff and parents with a view to addressing families’ needs and interests. A number of findings emerged from the consultations along with proposed courses of action to ensure that programming provides students in grades 7 to 12 with specialized training and enables them to learn more about fields that excite them.

In 2017, the Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est will invest in renovations at Collège catholique Franco-Ouest that include replacing lockers and ceiling tiles, painting some hallways, refurbishing some washrooms and replacing the folding partition in the gymnasium. The CECCE will also reconfigure the cafeteria, the music room, and gym change rooms and add a universal washroom.
