Centre scolaire catholique Jeanne-Lajoie Students Deliver Another Solid Performance in Provincial Testing

PEMBROKE, September 20, 2017 - Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) test results were announced this morning, and once again, students at Centre scolaire catholique Jeanne-Lajoie obtained excellent scores.

The results show that a very high percentage of students in grades 3, 6 and 9 function at level 3 (good understanding) or level 4 (deep understanding) in EQAO tests.

Grade 3 students scored 85% in reading, 91% in writing, and 78% in mathematics, exceeding provincial averages by 2 to 13 percentage points. Grade 6 students also performed very well, with 94% meeting expected levels of achievement in reading, 85% in writing and 77% in mathematics.

Grade 9 students can be proud of their results, too, with 91% meeting expected levels of achievement in academic mathematics (6 percentage points above the provincial average) and 83% in applied mathematics. This is the fifth year in a row they have improved their applied mathematics performance, exceeding the provincial average by 39 percentage points. For their part, 98% of grade 10 students passed the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT).

“Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est (CECCE) staff care deeply about student success and well-being, which shows in their academic results, their enthusiasm for learning and their desire to excel. I am grateful to parents for entrusting their children’s education to our skilled CECCE professionals, who are committed to continuously improving their teaching practices to ensure the success of every student,” said CECCE Vice-Chair Robert Lemelin.

CECCE Director of Education Réjean Sirois is also thrilled with the results. “I am very pleased to see that Centre-Est Catholic schools such as Centre scolaire catholique Jeanne-Lajoie have achieved such high scores, which are a testament to the quality education we offer, the leadership of school administrators, and the dedication of our teaching staff to supporting student success and the pursuit of excellence.”
