CECCE Students Dominate EQAO Test Results Across the Board 11 Years in a Row

OTTAWA, September 25, 2019- For the 11th year in a row, Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est (CECCE) students have come out on top in Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) testing. The CECCE has once again outperformed other French school boards, logging top scores in 8 of the 9 EQAO tests and significantly widening the gap between its results and provincial averages.

Over the past three years, the CECCE has invested heavily in mathematics, and those efforts are bearing fruit. The board is justifiably proud of the fact that its high schools clinched first place province-wide in both the academic and applied tests.

EQAO test results (Grades 3 and 6)

Grade 3 students attending CECCE schools demonstrated a deep understanding (level 4) or a good understanding (level 3) in all three disciplines: reading, writing and math. They exceeded the provincial average by 6 to 9 percentage points.

“The Grade 3 and 6 students’ remarkable EQAO test results are evidence of the tradition of excellence at CECCE schools. The fact that they scored above the provincial average proves that French Catholic education and the CECCE’s innovative approaches produce tangible results and inspire every one of our students to excel and achieve their full potential,” said  Johanne Lacombe, CECCE Chair, adding that, “These excellent results are made possible because CECCE schools offer a caring environment that supports learning and helps students be the best they can be.”

Provincial mathematics test (Grade 9)

The CECCE’s Grade 9 students also performed brilliantly, ranking first in the province with results well above the provincial average. Ninety-three percent of the students attained level 3 or 4 in the academic math test, as did 61% in the applied test, surpassing the provincial average for French boards by 3 and 10 percentage points, respectively.

Provincial literacy test (Grade 10)

Ninety-two percent of the students who were eligible for the first time completed the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) successfully in Grade 10, which is 3 percentage points higher than the provincial average.

“As a top-performing French school board for the 11th year running, the CECCE has earned the trust of the thousands of families that have chosen CECCE schools. These results are a testament to the leadership and engagement of our principals, our vice-principals and every one of the professionals working in our schools and our administrative offices and their dedication to ensuring every student’s success,” said  Réjean Sirois, Director of Education.
