CECCE Students and Representatives to Participate in 2016 One Young World Summit

OTTAWA, September 28, 2016 - One Young World, the highest-profile youth summit in the world, is being held in Ottawa from September 28 to October 1. The Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est (CECCE) is proud to announce that two members of its faculty will be taking part in the summit. As a youth-centred organization, the CECCE will also be hosting a summit session in one of its schools.

Catherine Despatie and François Bérubé will be part of the Canadian delegation. This international forum will bring together 1,300 young leaders 18 to 30 years old from around the world.

The CECCE teachers were selected for their leadership skills and their engagement with the board and their school communities. The forum will give them opportunities to have conversations with young leaders from diverse nationalities and cultures about issues that matter to them, such as education. The experience will be extremely enriching for them and will also benefit their students and colleagues as they share what they have learned during the summit.

“The CECCE is proud to be sending these two teachers to the One Young World Summit. They are role models for the youth of tomorrow and proud ambassadors who exemplify the CECCE’s mission to engage all students in learning, pursuing their dreams, and building a better world,” said Johanne Lacombe, CECCE Chair.

The CECCE will also be hosting some 20 delegates for a breakout session on critical thinking. This Friday, elementary and secondary school students will gather at  École élémentaire catholique Montfort to participate in the session with the international delegation. Students will have the opportunity to dialogue with these young leaders and develop solutions to real and complex social problems. CECCE experts will share classroom-proven teaching practices that transform the learning experience and help students develop 21st-century skills, such as critical thinking.

Director of Education Réjean Sirois is excited about CECCE experts participating in the One Young World Summit. “Canada is hosting this forum for the first time, and it will give our staff a unique opportunity to share their expertise with participants from around the world. I hope they will benefit tremendously and be inspired.”

This week, the eyes of the nation will be on Ottawa. The Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est is proud to be associated with a world-class forum that brings young leaders together so that their concerns, opinions and ideas for solutions can be heard by those in power. This excellent demonstration of engagement and leadership  will show students that, if they have the courage of their convictions, they can advance social, environmental and humanitarian causes.
