CECCE Attracts Harvard Researchers’ Attention

February 13, 2018, OTTAWA - The Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est (CECCE) is once again attracting attention. Top Harvard-based experts in the field of education are taking a close look at the board’s innovative ideas. Their main areas of interest are successful strategies for teaching and learning in the digital age and transforming the learning experience, as well as the CECCE’s leadership.

The American university has recruited francophone researchers to facilitate communication among the experts and education professionals. The Harvard researchers will work alongside fellow academics at Université Laval, who are also interested in the CECCE’s educational leadership model. With support from members of the Centre of Research and Intervention for Student and School Success (CRI_SAS/CRIRES) and its director, Thérèse Laferrière, all research interviews will be conducted in French.

Professor Christopher J. Dede of Harvard University’s Technology, Innovation, and Education Department is spearheading the project. “The CECCE’s initiative is a stellar example of the kind of large-scale success we want to document and share as a model of leadership in education from a public policy perspective.” Professor Dede’s goal is to document the visionary methods developed by the CECCE and its schools and disseminate them as models for other schools to follow. The case study will be published in English by Harvard University and in French by Université Laval.

“This project will certainly be deeply enriching for the Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est. We will seize this opportunity to review all of our innovative pedagogical practices in our ongoing quest to optimize them,” said CECCE Chair Johanne Lacombe. According to Director of Education Réjean Sirois, the American and Canadian experts’ interest signals that the CECCE is ahead of the curve in using technology to accelerate every student’s learning and take it to the next level. “The CECCE strives for excellence and is an established leader in transforming the learning experience. Everyone at the CECCE is very proud that the board’s practices may one day serve as benchmarks for experts and professionals in the field of education worldwide.”
