A new school trustee for the Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est

October 26, 2017, OTTAWA – The Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est (CECCE) is pleased to announce the appointment of Valérie Assoi as its school trustee representing the Bay, Rideau-Vanier, Somerset, Kitchissippi and Capital wards. She will replace Diane Doré, who, after representing the families in the area for many years, is retiring from her school trustee position to enjoy a richly deserved retirement. Ms. Assoi will assume her position on December 5 at the organization’s annual general meeting.

The CECCE’s school trustees voted for Valérie Assoi – a career woman – based on her skills and her Francophone and Catholic values, which dovetail perfectly with the CECCE’s philosophy and needs.

Valérie Assoi is a leader in search of new challenges. She holds a Master’s in Conflict Resolution and a Bachelor’s in Business Administration and has excellent planning, organization, and group management skills. Her ten years of program coordination and community development experience make her a highly qualified candidate for this position. Moreover, she has always been very involved in the education field.

Our new school trustee belongs to several groups dedicated to equity and is keenly interested in the Ontario Education Equity Action Plan and Ontario’s Well-Being Strategy for Education. Ms. Assoi is an engaged citizen who devotes her energies to several community associations, including the Assemblée de la francophonie de l’Ontario and the Mouvement d’implication francophone d’Orléans (MIFO). She is serving on the Board of the latter organization. Being creative, analytical, innovative and open-minded, she will surely move the CECCE forward toward new accomplishments.

Johanne Lacombe, Chair of the CECCE, is very much looking forward to working closely with Valérie Assoi, and she congratulated her for her interest in the school community within the Bay, Rideau-Vanier, Somerset, Kitchissippi and Capital wards. “I would like to welcome Ms. Assoi to the Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est. I am certain that she will meet the new challenges before her with professionalism and integrity.”

The Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est also wishes to congratulate Diane Doré for her years of involvement, which have been highly appreciated by the CECCE’s school trustees and administration alike. A trailblazing woman, she has helped improve the quality of life within her community. She has certainly made her mark, particularly through her involvement in projects such as the recent opening of the new French-language Catholic elementary school in the heart of Ottawa.

A proud resident of Vanier, she was a Vanier municipal counsellor in the 1990s and the founding president of the Muséoparc Vanier. She has also been a CECCE school trustee since 2003 and in fact chaired the organization from 2008 to 2010. She has also served on the Board of Directors of the Fondation des écoles catholiques du Centre-est, in addition to being involved in many other organizations. The least we can say is that the CECCE has been extremely fortunate to count Ms. Doré within its organization and we wish her all the best in the future.
