A Memorable Centralized Professional Development Day for CECCE Schools

November 15, 2017, OTTAWA - Close to 1,000 Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est (CECCE) teachers and principals will gather on November 17 for a memorable professional development day. The CECCE’s theme for the 2017–18 school year is “transforming the learning experience”, and the board is keen to give its employees opportunities to experience transformation as well. To that end, staff from several schools will take part in a day-long professional development event at Collège catholique Samuel-Genest designed to give them roots and wings.

In September, the CECCE launched Des racines et des ailes, a magazine about giving students roots and wings. That theme will guide the participants’ discussions and reflections about pedagogical practices that transform the learning experience. On the agenda are workshops about leadership, integrating technology, designing environments and spaces for learning, new emerging pedagogy, and well-being.

The CECCE’s centralized professional development day by the numbers: 900 participants, 60 workshop options, 75 facilitators, 34 participating schools, 18 organizing committee members, 25 student volunteers, three 60-minute workshop sessions and… one not-to-be-missed event!

“I see this event as an excellent opportunity for all CECCE staff to learn about the resources available to them. Throughout the day, dozens of professionals who work for the CECCE, such as social workers, innovative technology teachers, and educators, will facilitate workshops and talk about professional practices that transform the students’ learning experience,” said Johanne Lacombe, CECCE Chair.

In addition to the day’s workshops, participants will also have the opportunity to take in a lecture by internationally renowned speaker, trainer and author Carol Allain and will be treated to a performance by A Capella de Samuel-Genest, a group of students in the school of rock FOCUS program.

“The goal of this event is to hone our staff’s expertise, make clear connections to the Transformation 2020 plan, and celebrate our small steps and great leaps forward in transforming the learning experience,” explained Director of Education Réjean Sirois. “As a leader in transforming the learning experience, the CECCE expects all of its employees to make that vision a reality for the board’s 23,500 students. A day like this is an excellent opportunity for our staff to find out what is going on in other CECCE schools and incorporate winning practices into their own classrooms,” he added.
