Two CECCE principals recognized with Canada’s Outstanding Principals Awards

January 31, 2017, OTTAWA – For the 4th year in a row, principals from the Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est (CECCE) will be honoured at the Canada’s Outstanding Principals Awards Gala, to be held February 28, 2017, in Toronto. The CECCE was proud to learn that Lucille Plante, Principal of École élémentaire catholique Bernard-Grandmaître, and Sylvain Plourde, Director of the Service de soutien à l’apprentissage, volet enfance en difficulté (School Board Educational Services, Special Education Section), have been selected as two of 40 school principals across Canada to receive the national award presented by The Learning Partnership. Only 15 principals in Ontario were chosen for this prestigious award.

For Sylvain Plourde, a veteran educator, engaged leader, and inspiring director, this honour is well deserved, in light of his exceptional personal and professional qualities, and his involvement in and impact on the academic success of each and every student and the development of his employees’ skills. With more than 32 proud years of experience at the Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est, Mr. Plourde’s leadership has focused on student success, and he has put experts to work in teams and offered training and tools, but above all, he has instilled in the CECCE a belief that all exceptional students and students with special needs must be given every chance to succeed.

Lucille Plante has worked for 20 years on mobilizing her staff and making the CECCE’s schools places where caring, student success, and a thriving team and community go perfectly hand-in-hand. Her remarkable open-mindedness, her willingness to question herself and accept criticism, her talent for fostering interpersonal relationships, and her compassion make her a natural leader and an example for the school community. According to her, she has quite simply the best job in the world, and that’s what drives her to push harder every day.

“It’s an honour for the CECCE to be able to count principals like Mrs. Plante and Mr. Plourde among its team members. These two individuals stand out for their leadership in education, their involvement with the community, and their use of innovative methods that have a direct impact on student success,” said Réjean Sirois, Director of Education of the CECCE. “I’m highly aware of the value of the employees that make up the CECCE team, so I’m very proud whenever some of them have the chance to be recognized by the wider community. There are also several others who are similarly deserving of this honour.”

The CECCE’s Chair, Johanne Lacombe, added, “It’s thanks to principals like Mrs. Plante et Mr. Plourde that the CECCE continues to be recognized as a leader for transforming the learning experience, and for its excellence and caring. They both have a positive impact on the daily lives of their students, and are role models of leadership for the school community.”

Principals who receive the awards will participate in an exclusive leadership training program at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management, one of the most renowned business schools in the country.

They will also be inducted into The Learning Partnership’s National Academy, which currently has more than 400 members, all of whom are leaders in education and past recipients of the award.
