Early Years - Preschool

Preschool Childcare Centres

Most CECCE elementary schools offer preschool childcare services.

Many accept toddlers at 18 months, and some accept babies as young as 3 months. In most schools, the preschool childcare centre is managed by a non-profit Francophone early childhood partner.

Licensed under the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014, childcare centres are located within the schools, in spaces adapted to the age groups of children. In keeping with the guidelines in How Does Learning Happen? Ontario's Pedagogy for the Early Years, early childhood educators use a variety of activities and a wide range of materials to provide an array of learning opportunities.

For information about programs, rates, and hours, please contact directly the childcare centre. Contact information is available on the school’s website.

Petits Pas à Trois Nursery School Program

Petits pas à trois is a FREE Francophone nursery school program for three-year-olds in a school setting. Children benefit from a space designed to meet their needs (no desks here, thank you!) and the expertise of an early childhood educator.

Petit pas à trois is an excellent first step toward school for children who have not attended a childcare centre and who would be in their first experiences of  group socialization. Among other things, the programme addresses the needs of children who are learning French and gives them an opportunity to get comfortable with a school setting over an entire school year.

Licensed under the Ministry of Education of Ontario, this half-day program is based on learning through play and respects the pace and interests of children by offering them opportunities to discover, thrive and grow through play.

Kindergarten Program

At the CECCE, play-based learning is central to all actions.

In 2010, the Ontario Ministry of Education began to implement the Kindergarten Program province-wide. We are continuing to build on our experience in delivering this new model. Teachers and early childhood educators work in close cooperation, sharing classrooms and time with the children. For all classes of 15 children or fewer, a single teacher is responsible for delivering the program.

For the program, kindergarten classrooms are organized in areas for learning that contain materials for individual and group activities. These areas help children develop a taste for learning through manipulation, exploration, play and inquiry by offering them the opportunity to choose from among a wide range of activities. Children’s learning is planned, assessed, evaluated and reported based on four frames, which are designed to reflect the integrated way in which play-based and inquiry-based learning takes place in the kindergarten classroom. They also help children develop the attributes and attitudes needed to become responsible, active and contributing members of society. These four frames are:

  • Belonging and contribution;
  • Self-regulation and well-being;
  • Demonstration of learning in literacy and numeracy;
  • Problem-solving and innovation.

Extended Day Program

CECCE elementary schools offer a program before and after school hours for school children.

This child care service is offered in partnership with non-profit organizations licensed under the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014, or directly by the school. The CECCE provides the space in its schools to ensure a service continuum for children aged 4 to 12.

For more information about the programmes, rates, and hours, please contact directly the childcare centre.  Contact information is available on the school’s website.

Playgroups

A number of CECCE schools open their doors to the community and offer French language playgroups for children aged 0 to 6 and their parent, guardian or home child care provider.

During playgroup, children learn through play and can count on trained staff to teach them songs, nursery rhymes, and help them discover books, as well as encourage them to explore their creativity through art. Playgroups take place entirely in French.

Playgroups also give parents and caregivers an opportunity to meet other adults, get expert advice on parenting issues and find out about community resources.

Playgroups in our schools are open to anyone who wants to have fun while speaking French.

Come have fun with us!
