The CECCE’s very first Salon de la petite enfance: a smashing success!

October 30, 2017, OTTAWA – Nearly a hundred parents and their children participated in the activities offered at the Salon de la petite enfance, held by the Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est (CECCE) on October 28 at the Hampton Inn in Ottawa.

This free event was aimed at families from Ottawa and the surrounding area who wanted to find out more about how to prepare their children for kindergarten. They were able to benefit from education workshops presented in the form of activity stations demonstrating five learning methods: learning through play, physical activity, communication, critical thinking and self-expression. The stations were run by professionals from the CECCE.

A dozen partners operated booths where they welcomed families and explained the services available for entry to school. Many important CECCE partners were on hand, including Ottawa Public Health, the Vanier Carrefour de pédiatrie sociale, Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY) Ottawa, and Parents’ Lifelines of Eastern Ontario (PLEO).

With members of the CECCE administration, faculty, and child services departments involved at this very first Salon, parents also had the opportunity to have their questions answered and get advice about entry to school. Participating internal partners included superintendents of education and school principals, as well as members of the teams in charge of early childhood education; identity building; religious instruction; First Nations, Métis and Inuit; Actualisation linguistique du français (ALF); the Programme d’appui aux nouveaux arrivants (PANA); and transforming the learning experience. A team of CECCE professionals was also on site to offer parents the option of registering their child for school.

“The CECCE was very pleased to be able to offer this family-oriented event, with a strong educational focus and a goal of reassuring parents who are getting ready to make the leap into the world of education, as well as advising them on how to properly prepare their child for entry into kindergarten,” said Johanne Lacombe, Chair of the CECCE. “This was a gift we were thrilled to give these families, and we hope it will continue year after year.”

“Everyone involved in organizing the Salon de la petite enfance takes the well-being of families to heart and cares about making their experience as pleasant as possible,” said Réjean Sirois, Director of Education of the CECCE. “I’m proud that the CECCE could offer this added value to parents and children so they can start their journey through their French-Catholic school on the right foot.”
