Project announced to build a new daycare at École élémentaire catholique George-Étienne-Cartier

OTTAWA, September 8, 2014 – The Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est (CECCE) is proud to announce that a new preschool daycare along with a before and after school service will open at the École élémentaire catholique George-Étienne-Cartier in Ottawa’s Hunt Club South neighborhood in September 2015.

“It is essential for the CECCE to offer a range of services supporting families,” stated Denis Poirier, Chair of the Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est. “The learning of French is key to children’s development within our French-language Catholic schools. These new services will fully meet families’ needs.”

Daycare for children aged 18 months to 4 years

The new addition to the school will accommodate 15 children aged 18 to 30 months as well as 24 preschool children aged 2½ to 4 years. We will offer quality child care services in an entirely Francophone environment in the heart of the Hunt Club - Ottawa South urban community. The daycare will be accessible to all preschool children starting in September 2015.

Before and after school program for children in junior kindergarten to grade 6

The services offered by the preschool daycare will include a before and after school program for school-aged children. This service will replace the services currently being offered at the school and be designed to serve a larger number of families.

“École élémentaire catholique George-Étienne-Cartier is already allowing Francophone and bilingual families to receive the services they need to obtain the supervision and support that are key to their children’s development. This new daycare confirms our commitment to the community,” explained Bernard Roy, Director of Education of the Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est.

Parents interested in the preschool daycare service or the before and after school service can place their children on the waiting list for the École George-Etienne-Cartier - daycare and before and after school program at www.ottawa.ca/childcare.

Some $720,000 provided through a Canada-Ontario grant is funding the construction of the facilities that will be used to offer these services within the school.

With its daycare and before and after school program in addition to its regular junior kindergarten to grade 6 school program, the École élémentaire catholique George-Étienne-Cartier will have over 330 students enrolled in its Ottawa school.

With over 21,000 students attending 41 elementary schools, 10 secondary schools, and its school for adults, the CECCE represents the largest Canadian network of French-language schools outside Quebec.
