New facilities for École secondaire catholique Franco-Cité’s Faucons

Friday, August 29, 2014 – The Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est (CECCE) proceeded this afternoon with the official opening the new sports facilities of École secondaire catholique Franco-Cité. Following the ceremony, guests were thrilled to tour the school’s new double gymnasiums and adjacent fitness rooms as well as its six new classrooms. The addition of these gymnasiums makes Franco-Cité the secondary school with the largest number of gymnasiums in Ontario.

“The CECCE strives to provide its students with an environment commensurate with their ambitions, challenges, and dreams. The addition of these new gymnasiums will motivate them to continue excelling and developing,” stated Denis Poirier, Chair of the CECCE. “The CECCE can now count on new sports facilities whose quality fully reflects our mission, namely to engage all students in learning, pursuing their dreams, and building a better world.”

It should be remembered that the École secondaire catholique Franco-Cité is one of only a handful of Ontario schools to offer a Sports-Study program. Thanks to funding from the Ministry of Education and a partnership with the Ottawa Internationals Soccer Club, this $7 million project to upgrade Franco-Cité’s sports facilities fully aligns with the mission of CECCE’s French-language Catholic schools.

“We are pleased to be able to provide Franco-Cité with high quality facilities worthy of its programs. These facilities will in turn strengthen our programs and allow our students to achieve athletic excellence within an optimal environment,” stated Bernard Roy, Director of Education of the CECCE.

École secondaire catholique Franco-Cité offers the grade 7 to 12 educational program to nearly 1300 students, in addition to a Sports-Study program, a FOCUS football program, and Specialist High Skills Majors in health and wellness and sports.

With over 21,000 students attending 41 elementary schools, 10 secondary schools, and its school for adults, the CECCE represents the largest Canadian network of French-language schools outside Quebec.
