Joint Protocol for Student Achievement (JPSA) Unlocking Dreams, Opening Doors!

February 16, 2017, OTTAWA - The Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est (CECCE) is proud to be an official signatory to the Joint Protocol for Student Achievement led by the Children’s Aid Society of Ottawa (CASO).

The protocol, whose theme is “Unlocking dreams, opening doors”, is intended to facilitate collaboration between CASO and Ottawa school boards in their efforts to promote the academic success of students in kindergarten to grade 12 who are in the care of or receiving services from CASO.

The protocol that was signed today will ensure better services for students to help them succeed and obtain their Ontario secondary school diploma. According to data from the Ontario Association of Children’s Aid Societies, in 2014-15, only 46% of Ontario’s Crown wards graduated from high school compared to the province’s overall graduation rate of 85.5%. The graduation rate for CECCE students is 96%.

CECCE Chair Johanne Lacombe believes that the board must bring every necessary strategy to bear so that all students can reach their full potential. “Regardless of a student’s unique family circumstances, the CECCE is responsible for supporting them and giving them the tools to achieve their very best.”

To implement the protocol throughout CECCE schools, the board has set up a liaison committee to facilitate collaboration among CASO, school principals and specialized staff. This will enable CECCE personnel to monitor each student’s academic progress, ensure that they get the support services they need for their well-being, and help them succeed.

CECCE Director of Education Réjean Sirois is very pleased with this important partnership: “This protocol will facilitate information sharing between school boards and the Children’s Aid Society of Ottawa to ensure the well-being and success of every student receiving their services.”
