Five Catholic elementary schools in Ottawa open their doors to children aged 0 to 6 years

OTTAWA, September 3, 2014 – One day a week throughout the school year, children from 0 to 6 years old will be invited to participate in playgroups at five Catholic elementary schools in Ottawa.

The infants, toddlers and children, along with their parent or guardian, will be welcomed by the educators of the Petits pas à trois preschool program in the school facilities, which are specially designed for preschoolers.

During the two-hour playgroups, children can count on the specialized staff to teach them nursery rhymes and songs, read books and tell stories during story time, do crafts and have fun, and to do it all entirely in French.

“The Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est is proud to be able to open its doors to its future students, and to families in the community who are looking for activities in French for their preschoolers,” said Denis Poirier, Chair of the Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est (CECCE). “It’s also an opportunity for parents and guardians to get to know the school in their neighbourhood.”

“Because our preschool program for three-year-old children, Petits pas à trois, can only accept a limited number of children during the school year, this initiative will allow many more children to benefit from a francophone environment that’s tailored to their need to play, learn and grow,” said Bernard Roy, Director of Education of the CECCE.

Partnerships with a number of Ottawa organizations will also allow parents and guardians to get information and advice from a range of specialists who will be visiting the playgroups.
