Congratulations to CECCE Students... First in Provincial Testing

September 21, 2016, OTTAWA - Once again this year, Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est (CECCE) grade 3 and 6 students have obtained top results in provincial Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) tests.

Grade 3 CECCE students exceeded the provincial average by 5 to 6 percentage points, with 88% demonstrating a deep understanding (level 4) or a good understanding (level 3) in reading, 87% in writing, and 82% in math.

Grade 6 students also outperformed the provincial average in all three subjects. Ninety-four percent of grade 6 CECCE students attained level 3 or 4 in reading, as did 89% of them in writing and mathematics. They scored 3 to 5 percentage points higher than the provincial average.

“I am proud of the fact that grade 3 and 6 students maintained high performance levels in all three disciplines (writing, reading and mathematics), and that their performance in some subjects improved compared to 2015. This is a sign that the academic programs in our Board’s French Catholic schools meets students’ needs and that the success of every student is the staff’s priority. The ongoing pursuit of excellence, principals’ leadership, and dedication of the teaching staff have a direct effect on CECCE students’ performance,” said Réjean Sirois, Director of Education.

Ninety percent of grade 9 students attained level 3 or 4 in the academic mathematics test, as did 56% in the applied mathematics test. The academic mathematics test results are the CECCE’s best ever, and the applied test results are close to the Board’s three-year average. CECCE results in these subjects are 5 and 6 points higher than the provincial average, respectively.

The percentage of grade 10 students who passed the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) increased by 1 percentage point to 94%, which is 3 percentage points above the provincial average.

CECCE President, Johanne Lacombe, is also excited about the results released today. “Year after year, the Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est performs exceptionally well in provincial testing. Our teachers show tremendous leadership in their teaching approaches, which makes a big difference to the students’ learning experience and enables them to achieve outstanding results. Parents entrust their children to CECCE schools, and the Board never takes that for granted. That’s why staff members are committed to continuously improving their practices to ensure the success of every student.”

The CECCE is also pleased to announce that grade 6 students at Ottawa’s École élémentaire catholique d'enseignement personnalisé Édouard-Bond achieved a 100% success rate in all three subjects. Nearly 20 CECCE elementary schools can be proud of obtaining a 100% success rate in at least one of the three subjects.

At the high school level, 100% of the students at Académie catholique Ange-Gabriel in Brockville and the Centre professionnel et technique Minto passed the academic and applied mathematics tests as well as the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test. Every student at École secondaire catholique Marie-Rivier in Kingston also passed the OSSLT.
